When I started this series, I thought about dreams I have had where I would be in my childhood home, open the front door and walk out in another state, or a different country. In our minds and our memories, the distance between two points is zero. We make connections with emotions and follow them intuitively.

Using my Lomo Lubitel 2, I took pictures in familiar places, some that I see every day, some from my childhood, and re-rolled them in changing bags to double expose them in Japan. I kept rough notes of when and where I shot each roll, but left them vague enough to keep some of the spontaneity of accidental double exposure.

Sleep Walking was one of the two major photo projects I produced as part of my artist residency in Japan in October 2025, and was by far the riskier one. Choosing to achieve double exposures on film and in camera, instead of in the darkroom or digitally, meant that all the risks of using film were doubled, and I only had one chance to capture the image I wanted, but 2 chances to mess it up. Double exposing film does not create 2 images that can be separated, it creates one unified image of 2 different times and places, just like our dreams.
